Small Animal Ultrasound

Modular programme leading to a GPCert and optional PgC

Overview

Technological developments in recent years have led to rapid advances in veterinary ultrasonography. Meanwhile, the importance of echography and echocardiography examinations have also grown in veterinary medicine. These techniques enable the accurate diagnosis required to support a successful surgical or therapeutic intervention. The Small Animal Ultrasound program is comprised of 14 modules, focusing on thoracic and abdominal ultrasound examinations and echocardiography. The number of participants is strictly limited to ensure that each delegate has sufficient opportunity to discuss content with the lecturer and to practice using the equipment during the practical sessions.

Description

The modules will assist delegates to recognise when to use ultrasound, particularly its abdominal and cardiac varients.  The delegates will understand the limitation of the technique and diagnostic potential for each organ and be able to integrate ultrasound findings with the overall clinical picture for each patient in order to make therapeutic decisions.

Summary

This practical programme will bring together abdominal ultrasonography and echocardiography in a series of interactive modules.  Additionally Improve International's online learning management system, Moodle will provide access to course notes, discussion forums and other study resources.

A dedicated Programme Tutor will support every individual during their GPCert programme to ensure a rewarding and successful learning journey.

Delegates wishing to complete the Postgraduate Certificate examination will be required to attend all of the taught modules (including the practical sessions). These modules can be completed in one year or delegates can extend the programme over two or three years. Modules can be attended in any order, to suit individual preferences, subject to availability.
