Small Animal Medicine
The General Practitioner Advanced Certificate (GPAdvCert) in Small Animal Medicine is an advanced level ‘next-step’ programme for veterinary professionals who may have already completed their General Practitioner Certificate (GPCert) or Postgraduate Certificate (PgC), accredited by the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS) and validated by Harper Adams University (HAU) or equivalent qualifications from other providers.
You can also attend this programme even if you do not hold a postgraduate qualification, however, the GPAdvCert award route is only available to those delegates who hold or intend to obtain the appropriate GPCert/PgC award or equivalent.
Each module has been designed to progress your knowledge beyond the Postgraduate Certificate level with more in-depth and advanced content covering topics as diverse as mycobacteria and ureteric disease.
Delivered across three, five-day blocks based in Swindon (UK), this programme is designed for veterinary surgeons who want to deepen their knowledge and manage cases requiring complex therapeutic management with confidence.

The programme is spread over 3×5 day blocks and has been designed for veterinary surgeons who want to progress their small animal medicine skills to the next level.

In 2006 Luca was appointed Associate Professor in Veterinary Cardiology at the University of Minnesota where he practiced for 2 years, before moving back to the UK in 2008

Nora Romero-Fernández

Nora graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2012. After graduation, she undertook a small animal rotating internship in a specialist referral hospital in Barcelona after which she worked as a small animal practitioner for three years.
She moved to Glasgow in 2016 to undergo a small animal rotating internship at the University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital.
Subsequently, Nora joined Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists to complete an ACVIM Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine. She became a Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine after gaining her Diploma in 2019.
Nora joined the Vets Now Referrals Glasgow team in October 2019, where she is currently a member of the Internal Medicine team.
Nora has published veterinary articles and reviews, some of which have been translated to other languages including Spanish and German. She has also demonstrated endoscopic techniques in BSAVA National Congress, has lectured at the Emergency and Critical Care Vets Now Congress and delivers CPD for veterinary surgeons for IFEVET Streaming.

Laurent has published widely in the field of neurology and is a regular speaker on the national and international continuing education circuit. He is currently vice-president of the ECVN, past chief examiner of the ECVN examination committee and co-editor with Simon Platt of a recently published textbook on Small Animal Neurological Emergencies.

Chris graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2007. After 2 years in small animal practice, he started his postgraduate first as an intern and then a resident in Veterinary Cardiology at the University of Liverpool. Chris is a European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology and has been an RCVS recognised specialist in Veterinary Cardiology since 2016. He is currently working at Willows Referral Service in the West Midlands, U.K. His research and clinical interests are around interventional procedures and congenital heart disease.

European Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine Clinical Associate Professor in Small Animal Medicine and Oncology
After graduation, Nick Bexfield spent four years in practice before completing a residency in small animal medicine and oncology at the University of Cambridge. He gained both the RCVS and European Diplomas in Small Animal Medicine in 2006, and is a European Specialist. He remained at Cambridge as a medicine clinician for a further two years before undertaking a Wellcome Trust funded PhD. He was the Clinical Oncologist at Cambridge for a year, before moving to the University of Nottingham in December 2013 to become Clinical Associate Professor in Small Animal Medicine and Oncology. He is the BSAVA Congress Programme Committee vice-chair and also co-author of the BSAVA Guide to Procedures in Small Animal Practice. He lectures widely in the UK and abroad in all areas of small animal internal medicine.
