Featured Speaker – Laurent Garosi

12 July 2023 -

Laurent Garosi is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) and a RCVS/European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology.  Currently Head of the Neurology/Neurosurgery service at Davies Veterinary Specialists, he has published widely and is a regular speaker at national and international CPD events.  He is past-president of the ECVN, past chief examiner of the ECVN Examination Committee and co-editor of a recently published textbook on Small Animal Neurological Emergencies.

Laurent describes neurology as a logical discipline which requires veterinary surgeons to rely on their clinical skills to detect clues from patients in order to make a diagnosis.  He believes that increasing access to advanced imaging techniques, such as MRI, has transformed the discipline in recent years, helping owners to make better treatment decisions for their pet.  He also believes that Neurosurgical procedures have improved dramatically, together with veterinary understanding of the genetic aspects of Neurological Disease.  He says these developments, combined with the adrenalin rush of frequent emergency work, make Neurology a fascinating and rewarding specialism.

An acclaimed speaker, Laurent enjoys teaching because he relishes the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by colleagues in first opinion practice and to change some of their preconceptions about Neurology.

He was recently flown to Dubai to treat a lion belonging to the royal family and has an unfulfilled ambition to be an airline pilot.
