Veterinary Operations Manager

I am the new Veterinary Operations Manager for Improve International, based in the Swindon office.

I qualified from Bristol in 1993. Since then I’ve worked in mixed practice in Shropshire and a large cattle practice in Somerset, but spent the bulk of my time in a large practice in Bristol. During my time there I enrolled on the Improve modular surgery course, and subsequently obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2004. I also spent 2 and a half years doing a Soft Tissue Surgery residency under the care of Professor John Williams MA VetMB LLB CertVR DipECVS FRCVS  in a private referral practice in Cheshire. I spent a great deal of time driving on the M5 and M6 between Somerset and Cheshire!

Laparoscopy and oncological surgery have always been my surgical passions.

Once I completed my residency I spent over 10 years accepting referrals in soft tissue surgery as an RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery before stepping away from clinical practice to arrive at Improve this month.

Over the years I have been involved in all sorts of surgical education: lecturing for Bristol University; training numerous people how to perform laparoscopic ovariectomy; a variety of other local CPD provision within my previous practice as well as lecturing and examining for the BSAVA. When I saw the role come up with Improve International it seemed like a neat circle to come back around and complete having started my surgical ambitions in Cricklade. The Veterinary Operations Manager position is a new one to the business, so an exciting opportunity to make it my own. I have always respected the company’s ethos and superb quality of the courses available and I am filled with anticipation at the opportunities ahead of me to help continue to improve Improve.

Improve International was established in 1998 by a group of veterinary surgeons from across the UK. We run Continuous Professional Development training for veterinary professionals to help develop the skills and knowledge required in practice. Our programmes utilise a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and, where applicable, hands-on practical sessions. We are an international organisation with offices in the UK and Portugal.
