Alix McBrearty


Alix qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2002 and then spent two years in small animal practice in south Wales. After finishing a rotating internship at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket she returned to the Vet School in Glasgow in 2005 to do a residency in Internal Medicine. She obtained her RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2007 and her European Diploma in Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2011. She also has a Masters in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Glasgow for her work in hearing testing in companion animals. She has worked as a referral clinician in both Internal Medicine and Oncology and joined the University of Glasgow Internal medicine service as a clinician/teacher in 2013. She enjoys all aspects of internal medicine and in particular the investigation of swallowing disorders and kidney diseases.


Improve International was established in 1998 by a group of veterinary surgeons from across the UK. We run Continuous Professional Development training for veterinary professionals to help develop the skills and knowledge required in practice. Our programmes utilise a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and, where applicable, hands-on practical sessions. We are an international organisation with offices in the UK and Portugal.
