Elvin graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and following a rotating internship and short period in general practice completed a surgical residency at the same institution. During that time Elvin completed a masters and his certificate in veterinary diagnostic imaging. Elvin is currently a senior lecturer in small animal orthopaedics at the Royal Veterinary College and director of the small animal surgery residency programme. He lectures nationally for AO and is the education chairman for the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association. He has written numerous articles and book chapters on veterinary orthopaedics and regularly lectures both nationally and internationally. He is both a European and RCVS recognised specialist in small animal surgery.
