Extracapsular Stabilization for CCL Rupture & TPLO

Extracapsular Stabilization for CCL Rupture & TPLO

Introduction

Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture is the most common orthopedic disease in dogs. Rupture of the CCL leads to persistent instability, which translates into constant pain and discomfort, osteoarthritis, meniscal pathology, muscle atrophy, and compensatory changes to other limbs. Many options exist to surgically stabilize the joint to minimize long-term pain and development of osteoarthritis. During this 3-day course, students will be able to learn from a renowned veterinary orthopedic expert and practice an efficient intracapsular technique, the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), as well as additional, cutting-edge extracapsular techniques to stabilize the stifle after CCL rupture.

Day 1 (practical) will be dedicated to the extracapsular approaches! Emphasis will be placed on the correct isometric placement of fixation points as well as meniscal decision-making. Days 2 (theoretical) and 3 (practical) will focus on the TPLO technique - pointing out the advantages, ideal case selection for the usage and how to minimize complications. This course will allow you to build up your confidence performing a variety of techniques, using VOI´s innovative implants, surgical power equipment and instrumentation!
