Introduction to Small Animal Ultrasound


This highly practical 2-day course with practical sessions on both days was designed to allow veterinarians to start to get familiar with the ultrasound machine.

By the end of the course, it is expected that delegates will be proficient in some of the basic techniques of ultrasound.

Veterinarians with no or limited experience in the usage of an ultrasound machine.


  • Physics of ultrasound
  • Machine set up
  • Ultrasonography of the liver and spleen
  • Ultrasonography of the gastrointestinal tract and reproductive tract
  • Ultrasonography of the urinary tract
  • The standard echocardiographic views
  • The useful ultrasonographic measurements needed to make a diagnosis


Price includes course notes and all theoretical and practical sessions.

In the practical sessions delegates will be working with live dogs in groups of 3-4 delegates.

Coffee breaks and lunch are included on both days.

Before and after the course delegates will have access to the Improve International moodle platform. In this platform a number of resources can be available that range from course notes, videos, webinars, etc, depending on the course. Also pre and post course assessments and exercises will be available.
