Introduction:

This two day course aims to provide delegates with the knowledge to achieve standard
echocardiographic views in dogs.
Common artefacts that can be confused with cardiac pathology will be covered as well as
an overview of common acquired and congenital cardiac disease in the dog and cat.
The theory of Doppler will be introduced and its application plus normal Doppler findings will
be discussed.
Echocardiographic changes associated with hypertension, anaemia, hyperthyroidism and
other systemic diseases will be covered.
The course has a high practical content and there is plenty of opportunity to practise the
taught techniques.
By the end of this course delegates should have an understanding of:
• Machine set up and recording of images
• Normal ultrasonographic anatomy of the thorax
• Ultrasonographic diagnosis of diseases of the thoracic wall, pleural cavity and mediastinum
• Spectral and colour flow Doppler echocardiography
• Echocardiographic diagnosis of acquired and congenital heart disease
• Two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography.

Includes practical hands-on scanning.
